Advices Services Alliance

When the sector that helps everyone needed help itself.

The Advice Services Alliance exists to support the organisations that people turn to in crisis. Their website needed to match that responsibility. TASK redesigned it from the ground up, integrating the Advice Quality Standard and creating distinct pathways for professionals, members and the public.

The Challenge

The Advice Services Alliance is the umbrella body for independent advice services across the UK.  Its members range from national telephone helplines to local walk-in centres, all of whom are working on the frontline of social justice, helping people navigate some of the hardest moments of their lives.

When they came to TASK in 2020, their website wasn’t doing them justice.

Their existing site was cluttered and difficult to navigate.  For an organisation whose entire purpose is clarity – helping professionals to deliver clear, reliable guidance to people in need – it sent the wrong message entirely.

The ASA needed a site that could speak to a number of distinct groups simultaneously.  Advice-giving professionals looking for best practice resources.  Member organisations holding the Advice Quality Standard.  Funders and decision-makers wanting to understand the sector. And members of the public who might stumble across the site in their moment of genuine need, looking for somewhere to turn.

Our Solution

TASK built a new WordPress site – chosen for its flexibility, ease of management, and low barriers to ongoing content updates. The brief was clear: streamlines, navigable, purposeful.

A significant part of the project involved integrating the Advice Quality Standard into the ASA’s digital presence. The AQS (a government-backed quality mark held by over 600 advice services across England and Wales) had previously existed separately.  TASK wove it into the site architecture as a core pillar, giving it proper weight but without overshadowing the ASA’s broader identity.

For professionals, TASK built a dedicated members’ login area.  Clean, functional and secure, it served as a private space where accredited organisations could access documentation and best practice resources relevant to their work.

The public-facing element assisted with sign-posting a clear, prominent pathway through to local advice services and AQS accredited centres, searchable by geography.

The Results

The site TASK delivered has become the ASA’s primary public-facing platform, and remains so today.  TASK continues to manage and maintain it – a working relationship that has now extended well beyond the original brief.

The ASA went on to recommend TASK to a number of national advice charities – and endorsement which speaks directly to the confidence and trust they placed in the work.

For TASK, this project affirmed our belief that organisations working in social justice deserve digital infrastructure which matches the seriousness of what they do.
